At the Dunmuir Hotel, we want all our guests to feel welcome and comfortable during their stay. We offer a range of accessible facilities and accommodation options, and our team is happy to assist wherever possible.

As our hotel is a traditional building, some areas have physical limitations, including restricted turning space and changes in surface levels. We encourage guests with specific accessibility requirements to contact us before booking so that we can discuss their needs and help them choose the most suitable room.

1. Accessible Bedrooms

We have two bedrooms with features designed to assist guests with mobility requirements: one Classic Room and one Superior Room.

Classic Accessible Bedroom – with a Wet Room

Our Classic accessible bedroom offers the following features:

  • Wet room with level access to the showering area.
  • Toilet support rails.
  • Emergency alarm system, with the alarm located in reception.
  • Wheelchair turning space within the bedroom.
  • Higher bedside units and dressing table.
  • Lower wardrobe facilities to improve accessibility.
  • An adjoining door connecting to a second Classic Room, which can be arranged as either a twin or double, subject to availability.

Important information about the emergency alarm: Reception is not staffed between 11pm and 7am. Although an alarm is available, there may not always be a member of staff in the reception area, as our team also looks after guests elsewhere in the hotel. Guests should therefore be aware that the alarm does not provide a guaranteed 24-hour monitored emergency response.

Please contact us before booking if you would like to discuss the room layout or your particular accessibility requirements.

Superior Bedroom – Accessible Features

Our Superior Room offers a larger bathroom and additional support features, including:

  • Grab rails beside the toilet.
  • Grab rails in the shower area.
  • A spacious bathroom compared with our Classic Rooms.

Please note: The shower has a raised lip, so it is not fully level access. This room may therefore be unsuitable for guests who require a completely level, roll-in shower.

The available turning space and access routes are also relatively tight, which may present difficulties for guests using larger electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

We recommend discussing your equipment dimensions and access requirements with us before making a reservation.

2. Other Ground-Floor Bedrooms

In addition to our accessible Classic and Superior rooms, we have four Classic Rooms on the ground floor.

These rooms feature walk-in showers; however, the showers have a raised lip and are not fully level access.

While their ground-floor location may be helpful for some guests, these rooms have not been specifically adapted as accessible bedrooms. Please contact us to discuss the layout and facilities before booking.

3. Hotel Entrance and Car Parking

Is there accessible parking?

We have a designated accessible parking space opposite the hotel entrance.

Please be aware that our car park has a gravel surface leading to paved areas. The paving has a traditional irregular pattern, and the route to the entrance ramp has a slight incline.

Depending on the type and size of wheelchair or mobility equipment being used, the surface and access route may present some challenges.

Is the hotel entrance accessible?

The hotel entrance is accessed via a ramp leading to a large glass door with handles.

Although the ramp provides an alternative to steps, it has a slight incline. Turning space around the entrance and within certain access routes is limited, which may make manoeuvring larger electric wheelchairs more difficult.

If you have any concerns about access, please contact us before arrival so that we can explain the route in more detail.

4. Reception and Assistance

Is reception accessible?

Reception is situated beyond the lobby area and is accessed via a hatch.

If you require assistance checking in, please let us know. Our team will be happy to help wherever possible.

Can staff help with luggage?

Yes. If you need assistance with your luggage or require help getting to your room, please let us know in advance or speak to a member of our team on arrival.

Our team will do its best to make your arrival and stay as comfortable as possible.

Is reception staffed 24 hours a day?

No. Reception is not staffed between 11pm and 7am. Our team may be elsewhere in the hotel attending to guests, so staff are not guaranteed to be present at reception during these hours.

Please contact us before your stay if you have particular requirements relating to overnight assistance.

5. Restaurant and Toilets

Is there an accessible toilet?

Yes. We have an accessible toilet on the ground floor within our restaurant.

The route to the toilet allows guests to reach it without having to weave between restaurant tables, helping to make access easier.

Is the restaurant accessible?

Our restaurant is on the ground floor. If you have specific requirements relating to wheelchair access, manoeuvring space or seating arrangements, please contact us before your visit so that we can discuss how best to accommodate you.

6. Facilities for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Guests

Do you provide equipment for Deaf guests?

Yes. We have a Deafguard alerting device available on request.

Please let us know before arrival so that we can arrange to have the device placed in your bedroom.

If you have particular communication or alerting requirements, please contact us in advance to discuss how we may be able to assist.

7. Facilities for Blind and Visually Impaired Guests

Is the hotel suitable for guests who are blind or visually impaired?

We welcome guests who are blind or visually impaired and are happy to discuss individual requirements before arrival.

As the Dunmuir Hotel is a traditional building, there are changes in floor surfaces, doorways, furniture and other features that guests may need to be aware of. We encourage guests to let us know about any assistance they may require so that our team can help make their visit as comfortable as possible.

Can staff assist me when I arrive?

Yes. If you would like assistance on arrival, please let us know in advance or speak to a member of our team. Wherever possible, we can help guide you through the hotel, explain the layout and assist you in finding your bedroom, the restaurant and other facilities.

We can also assist with luggage if required

Can someone show me around the hotel?

Please ask our team if you would benefit from an orientation of the hotel. We can explain the layout of the areas you will be using and point out any changes in floor level, doorways, furniture or other potential obstacles.

Can menus be provided in an accessible format?

Please contact us before your visit if you require a menu in large print or another format. We will do our best to discuss suitable arrangements with you.

Can staff assist me in the restaurant?

Our team will be happy to help you find your table, explain the menu and describe dishes where helpful. Please let us know if you would appreciate assistance with reading the menu or identifying food and drinks on the table.

Can I bring my guide dog?

We welcome enquiries from guests travelling with assistance dogs. Please let us know when booking so that we can discuss any arrangements that may help make your stay comfortable.

Are there any particular access considerations?

The hotel has a large glass entrance door, a ramp with a slight incline, and a car park with gravel and irregular paving surfaces. These features may require additional care for some visually impaired guests.

As reception is accessed via a hatch beyond the lobby, guests who would benefit from guidance to reception or their room are encouraged to let us know.

We recommend contacting us before arrival so that we can discuss your individual needs and explain the layout of the hotel.

 How can I arrange assistance?

Please contact the Dunmuir Hotel on **01368 862033** before your stay. We will be happy to discuss your requirements and explain the facilities available.

We want all our guests to feel welcome and to have the information they need to plan a comfortable and enjoyable visit.

8. Planning Your Stay

How do I choose the most suitable room?

We understand that accessibility needs differ from person to person. A room that works well for one guest may not be suitable for another.

When contacting us, it may help to tell us:

  • Whether you use a manual or powered wheelchair.
  • The approximate width and turning requirements of your wheelchair.
  • Whether you require a fully level-access shower.
  • Whether you need grab rails or other bathroom support features.
  • Whether you require an emergency call system or particular overnight assistance.(Please remember reception is not manned 24/7)
  • Whether you are travelling with a companion who may benefit from our adjoining-room arrangement.

We will be happy to talk through the available facilities and explain any limitations before you book.

How can I discuss my accessibility requirements?

Please contact the Dunmuir Hotel directly before making your reservation. We would much rather discuss your needs in advance and help you make an informed choice than have you arrive and find that a facility does not meet your requirements.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Dunmuir Hotel.
